To track any vehicle, the vehicle’s owner has to send an SMS to the tracking system installed inside the vehicle. Upon receiving the SMS, the micro-controller takes the current location’s longitude and latitude coordinates from GPS receiver, packs it into an SMS and sends it to the owner and on a web server using GSM modem. When the web server receives the SMS containing vehicle’s coordinates, it will show location of the vehicle on Google Maps.
The vehicle tracking system enables the user of the tracking system to check the vehicle’s current location directly sent to his or her mobile phone using the absolute street address method. For android users, the location is also displayed on an android application. In case of vehicle theft, the owner is able to turn off the main ignition switch, check status and speed of the vehicle simply by sending an SMS. This system is very useful for car theft situations and also for adolescent drivers being monitored by parents.

SAFETY MEASURES WHEN USING A VEHICLE TRACKING DEVICE:
Ensure safe practices such as:
1. Shut down your vehicle in a suspicious environment.
2. Keep your tracker details secret.
3. Check your tracker working status at least twice a month by calling the device number or send the corresponding SMS commands.
4. Call the professional engineer for troubleshooting when you notice anything unusual.
There are 5 numbers to be allowed to authorize in the tracker at most.
If any number calls the tracker device, it will reply a SMS including the position of latitude and longitude if you did not set up the authorized number. If authorized number has set successfully, the device will not reply SMS including the positioning of latitude and longitude when the unauthorized number dials up it. Dialing the tracker device from the authorized number, it will hang up your calling and respond to a real-time latitude and longitude information.
THE NETWORK SIM CARD
Any SIM card that has network coverage can be inserted into the tracking device to operate all the necessary functions of the tracking system. MTN SIM cards are more preferable because of its wider coverage in Nigeria. Each text message (i.e. display result) the tracker sends, four naira (or any other specified amount depending on the network service provider tariff) will be deducted from the money loaded in the SIM card, which is inserted into the tracking device.
Also, MTN Share and sell or any other means can be used to transfer credit to the SIM card in the tracking device so that the tracker will be able to send the necessary information required from it via text message.
When the credit in the tracker SIM card is exhausted, whenever a command is sent to the tracker it will not be able to reply the sender the necessary information needed because credit has not been loaded into the tracker SIM card which will enable the tracker sends messages.
Nevertheless, even without credit in the tracker SIM card, when a command is sent to the tracker to stop or resume the vehicle, the tracker will perform the required task but will not send a message to confirm that the task had been successfully completed.
